How to Buy and Sell Used Kids' Items Safely
By Mia Chen · Published on November 03, 2026
Secondhand kids' gear can save money and keep good items in use. It also comes with a responsibility: federal law bans selling recalled children's products and products that do not meet federal safety rules, including lead and phthalate limits. That applies to used items as well as new ones. Here is how to buy and sell with confidence.
Check for recalls before you list or buy
Before listing a children's product, look it up by brand and model at cpsc.gov and saferproducts.gov. For car seats, check nhtsa.gov/recalls. Buyers should run the same check before using an item.
Items you should not resell
KidResize does not allow some items because of safety rules, including:
- anything subject to a recall;
- inclined infant sleepers, crib bumpers, drop-side cribs, infant sleep positioners and weighted infant sleep products;
- cribs made before June 28, 2011, or without a label showing the manufacture date;
- used breast pumps sold as single-user devices, and opened or used bottle nipples, pacifiers or teethers;
- children's products with broken, missing or altered parts, or with safety warnings or labels removed.
The full list is in section 11 of the KidResize Terms.
Write an honest listing
Use clear photos, show labels and any wear, and describe the item accurately. Use a brand name only if the item really is that brand.
Keep payment on the platform
On KidResize, payments are processed by Stripe, and seller payouts are released 3 days after delivery or pickup. If an item arrives not as described, the buyer can contact support within 3 days of delivery and we will help find a solution. Paying off-platform removes those protections.
